Co-op Classes

Co-op Classes

A collaborative learning community where homeschooling families share their gifts, teach their strengths, and grow together in faith.

What Is Co-op?

The SCCHEA Homeschool Co-op is a group of homeschooling families who collaborate to share educational resources, teaching responsibilities, and social opportunities for their children. Parents teach classes based on their expertise and interests, students interact with peers across different grade levels, and families build lasting friendships rooted in a shared Christian worldview.

Frequently Asked Questions about Co-op

When does Co-op meet?

SCCHEA holds two co-ops per year, Spring and Fall, with each session running 6-7 consecutive Mondays.

Co-op meets at two locations simultaneously. In Hastings at the Evangelical Free Church, and in Clay Center at the Clay Center Christian Church.

Co-op classes are organized into the following grade groups, with three class periods offered for each group.
Groups:
Nursery
Pre-K
Kindergarten through 2nd grade
3rd through 5th grade
6th through 8th grade
9th through 12th grade

Doors open at 8:30 am for check-in and teacher prep. A short assembly begins at 9:00 am, and students are dismissed into classes from there

School aged students need to be enrolled in Co-op classes for all three periods to be in the building. Adult children who have graduated and come as helpers are welcome with prior discussion with a Board representative, and name tags will be provided. A parent or guardian must be present and participating throughout the co-op session. In extenuating circumstances a student may attend with another family, provided an adult takes responsibility for that student. These situations are decided on a case by case basis by the SCCHEA Board and requests should be made prior to class signupsraph here

Every participating parent is asked to teach one class per session based on their own knowledge and interests. Parents also help in one additional period and have one period free. First-time co-op families are asked to help in two classes so they can get a feel for how things work before jumping in to teach.

Registration is $30 per family.  Some classes may have additional supply fees, which will be listed in the class descriptions at the time of registration.

Before registration opens, families receive an email with the full class schedule and descriptions. Registration is completed online including payment through PayPal. Teachers are also asked to sign the Statement of Faith and Member Covenant at the time of registration, both of which are available on our About page.
